Potholes
on the Spiritual Path
Contrary
to most that is written about the Twin Soul phenomena, recognition
and eventual joining with a Twin Soul is not common in the
physical realm nor is it something for the faint hearted. And
though there are twins who sometimes meet briefly while young, and
some may even have
recognition that they are indeed twins, in most cases of true Twin
Soul joining, the event happens in the later part of life when the
twins are nearing their sixties.
As we march steadily toward the time of new beginnings, there are
those, though they may at first remain unaware, who have been
prepared in pre-life for this time and will be guided toward their
spiritual destiny. For many, like Melvyn Caryl, it will be their
last incarnation and like them have planned their final charted
personal lessons and goals to correspond to the Divine Plan and
the beginning of a new Grand Cycle.
I,
Caryl, was once asked if all reunited Twin Souls had been
divorced. I can’t say for sure, but in all likelihood in
our Western society where divorce is not condemned, it is possible
that we choose certain individuals to play out our last push
toward establishing our personal sovereignty through a relationship
challenge. I am positive this is the case with both Mel and me.
And since most Twin Soul reunions takes place later in life it is
reasonable that each Twin is likely to have had previous close
relationships. This should not be looked at in a negative way, but
rather stepping stones toward one’s final goal.
The prologue to the occurrence of twin reunion is marked by an
awakening. However, not all awakenings are a sign of imminent Twin
Soul reunion, for many spiritually mature and enlightened
individuals have prepared to play a role in the time of ushering
in the New Age. And not all will have a Twin Soul reunion, Some
have arranged for their twin to assist them from the other side,
and some are younger souls.
The awakening process usually takes one of two forms. Of course
there are always exceptions—and in some cases there is an
overlapping of these two groups. As with any archetype, individual
experience overrides these generalizations. Our purpose here is to
give examples of the process, and some of the difficulties and
rewards. For some, the changes are so dramatic and life altering
that one's sanity is called into question. We present these
awakening possibilities to show that the process of awakening is
not insanity but quite normal and in fact necessary.
Type I
-- Sudden and Often Life Changing
Type II --
Slow and Steady
We will begin with Type I
For these individuals the awakening comes suddenly and often
without warning. Until the time of awakening typically they have
little interest in spiritual study or practice. Or they may be
following their family tradition of belonging to a particular
religion, yet religion is not usually their focus in
life. (We will speak more of this with the Type II
variety.)
They are content
living in the moment where their view of life is limited to the
seen, concrete, tangible and physical world. The theme that would
best describe their life view is “what you see
is all there is.” Often these individuals consider
themselves atheists. They pride themselves with distance from
emotionalism and intellectual reason is the method by which they
make decisions. Any intuitive knowing would be discounted as
coincidence. Where there may be an occasional spark of mystic
curiosity, this is easily overridden by their conditioned view of
the world and the distraction of monetary focus. They may be very
loving fathers and mothers, dependable, and responsible parents,
but their lives are defined by the routine of their daily
existence.
It is with this group that the transition is the most difficult
for when seeds of ‘knowing,’ held
deep within their consciousness, begin to immerge and small
glimpses of true reality surface, this new view of the world
threatens all they hold dear and have believed as rational and
practical. Their shift in consciousness is marked by sweeping
contrasts that throw them into turmoil where radical changes in
their life are the inevitable outcome. Values begin to change and
disinterest in material acquisition raises barriers in many
relationships. Often wives or husbands of the one in transition
can’t understand the new direction of their spouses thinking.
Some feel threatened. Friends and business colleagues may begin to
back away, unable to relate to this confused new person.
In the early stages of the awakening process, some may have
glimpses of psychic abilities, but bound by their “what
you see is all there is” mindset, they discount them
as imagination or fantasy. These psychic events are often followed
by various situations that again bring to mind these psychic
experiences. Someone may give them a book, or they might catch a
TV program, or see a movie where they find a growing interest and
connection that can’t easily be explained.
Slowly, bit by bit, pieces of a completely different reality
begin to emerge where a spiritual link to all of God’s creation
is made. In this stage, beauty is the focus of their
interest—whether it be the landscape, painting, music,
animals--a love for all God’s creations flood their spirit and
being a part of it becomes important. Many find themselves
questioning and eventually distancing themselves from that which
they always believed to be true, eventually discovering security
and freedom of the unknown
rather than in the well-known.
There is a gradual understanding of other dimensions and a
realization that all existence is energy.
Awakening can happen as quickly as in a few weeks or months,
and while this new spiritual connection is often accompanied with
joy, even moments of euphoria, the world of the newly awakened is
suddenly turned upside down. Feet once firmly planted in the soil
of physicality are now unsteady and not yet fully replaced by a
secure hold on this new reality.
Seen by the enlightened observer, there is a strange
predictability to the process, but to the individual in transition
who is suddenly faced with what he now understands to be true from
a ‘heart level’ and yet having to still live “in
the world” causes chaos and instability to reign in
his/her life. While the ‘junk’ of
past misperceptions and choices surface and have to be carted
away, old structures of their former life are inevitably destroyed
and new groundwork laid to take its place.
There may be an effort to cling to some facets of their former
life, but this effort only serves to more firmly illustrate that they
are not who they used to be. In fact, with the outer wrappings now
stripped away the real person hidden beneath is now revealed. And
though they may not be completely comfortable with this new
reality of themselves, they cannot abandon it either.
During this process, it is not unusual for this person to fall
into despair. The term Dark Night of the Soul
comes to mind, for only the skeleton of their former world—the
one they always knew—is left. Feelings of loss and abandonment
are common as everything and everyone seems to have turned against
them. Often in these stages one faces a series of events that
painfully leads them to, and through, their final life lessons. The
scenarios may differ slightly; the players change, but when
observed by a mature and enlightened soul, the pattern can be
seen. The painful play will continue as charted until the lesson
is learned and personal sovereignty is achieved.
They must look closely at what is causing their unhappiness. If
the same thing keeps happening over and over, it is their reaction
to these events, and choices taken because of them, that must be
closely scrutinized. For if they cannot see the link, the
situation will repeat itself.
Regardless of the highly spiritual being they are on the
inside, sometimes, unknowingly, they resist their pre-life charted
destiny. Shaking free the tenacious hold on their old life and
unproductive activities is not easy and makes the process all the
more painful. No matter which direction they turn they may find
every effort to retain or restore their crumbling former life
blocked with no tangible solution. Misfortune seems to follow
their every step. The more substantial the spiritual mission, the
larger role the person must play, the more challenging the
awakening process, for their talents are great and preparation to
function in their assigned task ahead is critical.
It is important to cast no judgment on those that society might
look down upon, for difficult life lessons are chosen for those
with the most potential--those who will hold weighty
responsibility in the coming times. Life chart lessons must be
completed and the significance of Divine Transformation should not
be minimized. It is through the smelter’s flame that the steel
is forged, and the sword tempered.
There will be tests of strengths and weaknesses as they begin
to see life as a series of plays staged to gain experience and
maturity. Pre-life charting provides scenarios to thrust the
person toward spiritual growth where they can escapes the vise
grip of victimhood, and no longer look for external causes or
explanations for why incidents happen.
These are periods marked by extreme highs and lows with many
tears shed in equal bouts of joy and sadness. Through such insight
and confusion the person discovers that work that used to give
meaning to life now holds little significance. At times, sense of
loss or purpose seems overwhelming until they grasp the
concept that their “doingness” is
not who
they are.
For those who live from the “head” of intellectualism
accepting thinking,
solid reasoning, and science as the only
avenues to truth,
suddenly find themselves confused when confronted by experiences
where unveiled reality is brought to them through their emotions
and the “heart” of love.
In time, these individuals begin to find the “Goddess
Within” and love eventually becomes the basis for
their decisions. Once the Goddess is found, with a jubilant heart,
expressions of joy at their new found awareness are often met with
negativity and confused stares from those they love. As the
phenomena of awakening spirals, often lifetime associates back
away and ties with close friends and family--unless they too have
gone through such an awakening--continue to distance themselves.
This is a time of limbo, for the new seeker is driven by an
inner voice that he/she really does not yet understand and sets
out on a path where the destination is little more than a mirage
on the distant horizon. Yet he/she, is in trust, and is driven to
uncover the mysteries of this new existence.
Once they accept these necessary changes, their lives begin to
smooth out and personal equilibrium in the end is established.
Eventually they find the connectedness of soul-to-self, and
soul-to-other souls that brings them a sense of satisfaction. In
self-centeredness the person approaches Bi-Gender balance. (See Glossary-For
Bi-Gender Balance) Though the path ahead is still unclear, they
trust the inner-voice and feel a sense of peace, knowing that
somehow it
will all work out. With
practice, they eventually eliminate self-doubt and the path ahead
becomes clearer.
The newly awakened will experience feelings of being different
from others in someway, and they search for Divine purpose behind
every step they make. Yet what is described here is an ongoing
process that continues to polish the outer-self
to a radiant luster matching the inner-self as the individual settles into spiritual
maturity.
Type
II
This individual has a conscious awareness and a drive for
spiritual knowledge. Often this type cannot
remember not
thinking about God or spirituality in some way. They often start
by following their family tradition of belonging to a
particular religion, and one day they sort of "wake
up" and realize that what they have always believed, or at
least blindly followed, makes little sense to them anymore.
Since childhood,
this person is cognizant of an inner spiritual awareness that over
a lifetime gradually awakens to ever greater levels of spiritual
understanding. Spiritual practice is their goal, and is reflected
in their dealings with others. Some call this “walking the walk.”
This is
not to say that their life is all "wine and roses!" On
the contrary, there are times when their lives are just as turbulent as that
experienced by Type I.
This path is generally marked by those who, seemingly unnoticed
by those who would “judge”
another as “spiritual,” live a
quite lifestyle and work in the trenches of everyday life serving
others. These are the ones who "tread the mystic path with
practical feet." They appear to be connected to the world around
them, and yet in reality are far more tuned into the unseen than
even they realize. Their path includes all the tests and trials of
the “Type I” awakening but are
experienced and achieved slowly, step by step, at intervals along
the life journey.
Showing traits of a mature soul, they would likely live in
relative comfort but are less concerned with excess material
wealth, and in most cases lack need or desire to climb a corporate ladder.
This does not mean that they shun all things "material."
Rather the acquisition of material wealth for the sake of holding
a large bank balance is not their quest.
If
they are involved with spiritual study at all, (after rejecting
any early religious leanings) they would be more
likely to sample from flower to flower, sipping the nectar until
they stumble upon dogmatic manmade laws that impede their
spiritual freedom. In this day many tend to use the Internet for
much of their spiritual study, but unfortunately spiritual
isolation is the result and many crave companionship of soul
family.
Type
II’s differ from Type
I’s in that they move through the path of
awakening in a more accepting way. The swings from highs to lows are
less dramatic. They still experience the changes in their focus of
relationships, the pulling away from the mainstream, but the lows
are not so low, and until they reach near the end of the journey,
their highs are not so high either. They tend to take for granted
the inner voice they have always heard, the psychic phenomena that
has always been a part of their lives. However the steps toward
maturity are usually just as overwhelming as Type I.
Whether a Type
I or a Type
II, it is following the time of awakening, and
the long trek dodging the potholes on the spiritual path that maturity is reached.
When the turbulent waters of
life begin to smooth a bit, the matured individual, if such has been
charted, might encounter The Twin Soul!
And then…
a very intense learning process starts all over again!
I hope this guideline provides understanding for those who find
that their recent love of God and Goddess, or recognition of
a Twin Soul has thrown them into all kinds of turmoil.
Somehow, I believe it makes it just a bit easier to know
that you are not alone. Others have walked this same path and have
survived, in fact, once through the process, I guarantee you will
bless the difficulties you faced upon the quest to learn
who
you truly are.
Walk in
awareness,
Love always,
Caryl
